Yes! The other day I noticed the extractor fan in my kitchen wasn’t working too well… so I took it all apart and had a look at what was inside there, decided what new parts I needed, ordered those and I’m waiting for them to arrive so I can put it all back together!

I’m also pretty good at building IKEA furniture :).

      Yes, all the time!

I bought a second car that I work on at home, I was always fascinated how the engines work, so I took it apart and put it back together! Now I just drive about in the car and make changes to things and understand how it affects the cars performance!

Everything in your house has been engineered in a specific way, by lots of different types of engineers, so having a bit of engineering knowledge is always handy when things break!

I’ve also opened a tin of paint, its amazing what levers can do! 😉

When you start to think about it, engineering is EVERYWHERE, we just dont realise it at first! 🙂

I do quite a bit of home improvement. For example, I have torn down walls and ceilings, to rebuild them with better insulation. I go around the house with a “heat meter” measuring cold spots and an “electricity meter” checking how much electrical appliances are using. I have built an automated watering system in the garden (used when it is not raining), installed solar lights and use solar panels to charge my phone and tablet computer. On my desk, I have a lego robot and other gadgets. One of them is so weird, people are always asking me “What is that?”

I am helping a football team at the moment for fun – I am designing and installing an cold-bath chiller system to help their muscles recover after intense training! They don’t like it very much….
