I was doing my A-levels, didn’t have a clue what I wanted to do after that, when I got a leaflet in the post from a group called ‘whynotchemeng’… it was all about chemical engineering.

It looked interesting so I did a bit more research and realised that chemical engineers can work in lots of different jobs, from manufacturing chocolate, to make up, to energy! Also they got paid very well so I thought I’d do it and see where I end up :).

I was good at maths and physics… and I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do!

I picked up a university brochure and got to the A-Z of courses….
Naturally I got to A and found Aero-mechanical engineering… and I knew it was for me… (Absolutely nothing to do with the fact I was quite lazy at school!… honest!)

Ever since I graduated I’ve been working with various organisations to raise the awareness of the engineering profession in Schools! its such a massive field that just wasn’t talked about in schools! (Either that or they kept telling us about it whilst I was sleeping up the back…)

An interest in how things work and getting a kick out of solving problems in a creative way. The Maths and Physics I did in school are like the tools I use everyday.

I wanted to be a Geologist. After my degree, there was a downturn in the economy and the Oil companies were giving all the Geologists the sack. So I set up a business selling handmade sausages and worked part time in an engineering design office – doing the filing!

I had lots of temporary jobs in engineering, but I was always the one who had to do the jobs the engineers didn’t want to do – so I went back to University and retrained as an engineer!
