• Question: What makes you similar or different to other engineers?

      So engineers do a lot of different things….mechanical/civil/chemical/electrical etc etc and work in a lot of different areas from energy to biotechnology to pharmaceutical to….the list could go on and on.

      So what make us similar? It’s the way we think…we are curious and questioning, creative but calculating, ambitious but pragmatic.

      We all want to make things better and a we appreciate the real beauty in a clever engineering solution.

      I think I’ve demonstrated that we are not (all) poets however….

      I think I’m similar to lots of engineers in that I enjoy my job and want to come up with the best solution. I think in some ways I’m different from other engineers because, for better or worse, I put all my heart into my job, so I really care about what I’m doing.

      Similar – A love of mathematics and science, applied to solving practical problems.

      Difference – Working at the bleeding edge of engineering simulation, designing software tools for future generations of engineers.

      I think I am similar to most engineers in that I’m quite logical, and if I have a problem to solve I try to break it down and step through it to solve it. I am different because I am really interested in communicating engineering to everyone and getting more people into it! There are other engineers like this, but it’s not that common!
