I didn’t know much about engineering until I was about 18 years old! So I’d like children to be introduced to engineering from a younger age – so that they learn about it and can chose to do it if they like it. I think a cartoon would be a good way to do this :).

Yasmin is exactly right – I’m not sure many people (especially at an early age) understand what engineers do or what the profession is all about. So it is important to communicate that more effectively to young students as they make subject choices in school – so they don’t miss out on a potentially very rewarding career.

For my part, I want to develop some small demonstrations of renewable energy conversion and then create YouTube Videos to reach a wider audience. It would be great if schools could use these podcasts in class.

I’ve had a quick look at all the proposals for the £500 and you can at least be confident that it will be well used, whoever wins 🙂

I’d like to take a number of different gadgets to as many schools as I can to show how strange and exciting the world of engineering simulation will be in 5-10 years. I have virtual reality equipment to bring along and I’d like £500 towards a hand held 3D laser scanner to put you, your best friend and you teacher into cyberspace.
